On the 1st of March 2023, a modelling workshop was held, jointly organised by the UNTWIST and the ADAPT projects and was a great opportunity to discuss the modelling approaches of the two projects that are funded under the topic “Looking behind plant adaptation (SFS-30-2019)”. Ideas and approaches were exchanged promoting knowledge and experience sharing and further strengthening the interaction between the UNTWIST and the ADAPT project.
After a general introduction to the two projects by the coordinators, the respective work package leaders of the two consortia gave a general overview of the different strategies they apply in their modelling approaches. These covered the importance of data pre-processing and integration also underpinning the importance of rigorous data management by all researchers involved. The second part of the workshop provided room for further details and discussions about the different modelling approaches for predictive and mechanistic modelling. The two projects share many cutting-edge modelling methods. However, while UNTWIST focuses on the oilseed crop camelina, ADAPT centres on the analysis of the starchy root crop potato. Combining the knowledge gained in both projects will not only improve the modelling of crop adaptation responses to predict their performance but also promises interesting new insights into general and specific stress adaptation strategies.
