On May 9th, the UNTWIST project took part in a joint field event with the CARINA project at the experimental farm of the University of Bologna in Cadriano (BO), Italy. The event brought together approximately 30 participants, including farmers, seed company representatives, technical advisors, and researchers, fostering a dynamic environment for knowledge sharing and field-based discussions.
During the event, the UNTWIST team presented four focus lines of camelina, cultivated as autumn cover crops using the best agronomic practices developed through earlier project trials. These plots served as a demonstration of camelina’s potential within sustainable and diversified cropping systems.
Complementing the UNTWIST showcase, the CARINA project presented its field trials of Brassica carinata, providing attendees with a broader perspective on the role of innovative oilseed crops in modern agriculture.
The joint format allowed participants to directly observe and compare crop performance and management strategies under real field conditions. The day sparked engaging conversations and received positive feedback, highlighting the increasing interest in integrating alternative oilseeds like camelina into resilient and sustainable farming systems.
This collaborative event underlined the shared goals of the UNTWIST and CARINA projects in promoting climate-smart, economically viable, and environmentally sustainable agricultural practices.
