In 2022 and 2023, UNIBO conducted a two-year field trial aimed at evaluating the response of the four focus lines of camelina, selected from the UNTWIST core collection to two sowing times. Small plots at the experimental farm of the University of Bologna (Italy) were sown both at optimal and stressful sowing times, corresponding respectively to autumn and late spring in our climate.
During the camelina growing cycle, measurements were carried out at the beginning and end of flowering, focusing on chlorophyll content, chlorophyll fluorescence, the relative water content of leaves, and photosynthesis.
Overall, seed yield exhibited a significant reduction under stressful sowing conditions. Even if no significant differences were observed among the seed yields of the four focus lines, physiological data revealed different responses to stressful conditions among these genotypes, confirming data obtained in a semi-controlled environment.
